OSM Mid-Continent Region Lower Midwest Reforestation Initiative Meeting

LIMITED INTEREST MEETING BY INVITATION ONLY BANNER.

DATES AND LOCATION

July 22, 2008 - Austin, TX

Background:

The OSM Mid-Continent Regional Office (MCR) is going to expand its reforestation efforts in the mid-continent states. As a first step in this effort, the MCR is interested in assessing the suitability of applying the Forestry Reclamation Approach (FRA) to reforestation of reclaimed mine lands in the Mid-Continent States.

Topics Covered:

The basic agenda would be: (1) a presentation from one of the ARRI staff on lessons learned from implementation of the FRA in Appalachia; (2) short presentations for each of the participants on their assessment of the applicability of the FRA or some modification thereof to increase and improve reforestation success and prevalence in the Mid-Continent States; and (3) an open discussion on ideas and issues presented and suggestions for future efforts by OSM.

Target Audience:

The MCR has invited key representatives from the lower Midwestern States (total of 10 to 12) from academia, mining regulatory authorities, and the industry.
