2008 Beneficial Use of Industrial Materials Summit

Dates and Location:

March 31-April 3, - Denver, CO

Background:

The summit takes a materials management approach for reuse and recycling to better align with existing and developing strategic plans for achieving the environmentally safe beneficial use of industrial materials. It is designed to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas about beneficial use among regulators, industry, and other stakeholders. The Summit supports discussions: (a) between industry and regulators to increase the understanding of the beneficial use of industrial materials and regulatory programs; (b) among state regulators to share information and experiences on beneficial use regulations and determination processes; (c) among industries to share experiences on successful reuse and recycling, and to assess the potential to utilize each others' materials, and (d) among researchers, nonprofit representatives, industry, and regulators to share information and concerns regarding risk assessment, beneficial use determinations, environmental safety, and new research. Kim Vories from OSM MCR will be a speaker at this event.

Topics Covered:

State Environmental Regulatory Decisions; Product use in transportation, agriculture, building construction, and mining; barriers to use; and research trends.
