Hispanic Engineering and Science Organization Career Fair, University of New Mexico

Dates/Location

September 13, 2007 - Albuquerque, NQ

Background

OSM participated in this event as a means to recruit students to fill OSM’s rapidly declining workforce.

Topics Covered

Dan Rivers and Duane Matt spent the day telling students about OSMRE’s mission, what career opportunities were available within the federal government, and specifically, what career opportunities were available within OSM. The pair spoke to hundreds of students. They collected 12 resumes and completed questionnaires from many of the very motivated and well trained students. The majority of the students that stopped by the booth had engineering degrees. Most had electrical or chemical engineering degrees due to the schools close proximity to the INTEL Corporation, Sandia Laboratories and Los Alamos Labs. There were still enough civil engineers to make the event worthwhile. Many of the students also had computer science and environmental science degrees.

Target Audience

College engineering and environmental science students.
