TIPS 2007 Steering Committee Meeting (west)

Limited Interest Meeting by Invitation Only Banner.

Dates/Times
8:30 am Tues 5/08/2007 to 5 pm Thurs 5/10/2007

Location
West

Description
Lou provided a copy of the table listing the Steering Committee issues from last year and how the team addressed each issue from our Team meeting in Breckenridge. The members commented that all issues they had brought before the TIPS group last year were addressed to their satisfaction. They liked the idea of getting TIPS out of hardware, except for “seeding technology,” and they wanted to keep the emergency fund in case something breaks. As usual the TIPS training got very high marks.

The team discussed tracking software usage and the members wanted TIPS to be able to track all of the TIPS software usage, even if ESRI no longer uses Flex licensing. They also wanted the group to be able to track usage on laptops in the field if possible. They suggested using system logs modified specially on the operating system to send regular reports to our server. I have tasked Greg Morlock with the details of this request. He has suggested a special use of KeyServer.

There was discussion of the occasional system upgrades, etc. that come from Headquarters concerning the OSM LAN. Steering Committee members wanted to make the TIPS customers aware of these scheduled updates. The team agreed to look into providing all Service Managers with a list of the appropriate network contacts at each customer site. This list would be added to the notification email list at the headquarters level as well. The group will be discussing this with the Service Manager Task Group.

The members wanted to see TIPS marketing increased – including presentations to the AML business meeting, etc. They wanted word of TIPS to reach more State and OSM offices.

Future issues to look into – A Ricoh GPS camera, Point-cloud processing software.
Service Managers need to better communicate the Steering Committee policy of no new hardware – except seeding new technology where it hasn’t been before.

Get more TIPS success stories on the website and get more TIPS newsletters and website information circulated. The Steering Committee members recognize that the TIPS story has to be told to their management at the State level to lend further support to TIPS so that TIPS support will grow.

States would like their IT folks to be aware of scheduled interruptions to OSM’s network as it may affect TIPS license access. Our Service Managers will be tasked to list the appropriate IT person at each customer site so that they can be contacted by OSM email whenever there is a scheduled service down time on the OSM servers.
