APPALACHIAN REGION TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER GOALS

  • Establish two positions to implement the Regional Technology Transfer program:  These positions would have specific duties identified involving activities such as those above.  These positions would be directly under the supervision of the Chief of the Technology Support Group, Program Support Division, ARCC.
  • Establish Technology Transfer Steering Committee:  This committee would consist of representatives from the AR states and OSM.  The committee would meet and have regular conference calls to discuss technical transfer needs within the AR, and ultimately make recommendations to the ARMC.
  • Request a budget to be used for interactive forums and workshops, as well as securing technology transfer materials/equipment, paying for display space, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Survey the other regions and headquarters regarding appropriate technology transfer materials.
  • Sponsor an interactive forum on Geo-Physics techniques, which may include, but may not be limited to geophysical cavity detection and possibly stream loss in 2003.  This would consist of a one- or two-day forum where states and academia would be invited to give presentations regarding their approach to stream loss issues associated with underground mining in permitting and enforcement.
  • Survey the appropriate states to determine if they would be interested in a workshop on permitting practices that are effective in preventing flooding as a result of mining in steep slope areas.  If the interest is there, OSM and the states would sponsor this workshop.
  • Provide outreach and training on the AMDTreat water treatment program to the states in FY2003.
  • Provide ARCC technical professionals for an OSM booth at the National Engineers Week.  The meeting will be held at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA on February 14 - 15, 2003.
  • Provide certified instructors to support NTTP training classes during FY 2003.
  • Provide certified instructors for TIPS training classes during FY 2003.
  • Purchase CD burner that can mass-produce CD’s.  This will be necessary for production of proceedings from interactive forums.
  • Develop a client/customer contact database.
  • Purchase a conference display setting for use in AR technology transfer activities.
